Unfortunately, in M42 mount there’s not much choice for a wider lens. The widest m42 lens I have is the Mir20 and it’s f/3.5 and a tad soft wide open. At f/5.6 it gives great results. But it’s only 20mm.

That’s why I went with the Sigma 10-20mm f/4.0. Not the fastest lens neither, but doesn’t break the bank at roughly under $200 USD on ebay for a used one in excellent condition. That Sigma is also rectilinear, which is another plus unless you’re after a more “fisheye” look.

So if you want to go wider than this, you will have to consider other type of lenses.”

There exists rectalinear SMC Takumar 15mm/3.5. Not the sharpest lens of all time (to put it lightly) but it does the job stopped down.
